SNOW WHITE – THIS BOOK (LIKE THE MOVIE) STARTED IT ALL

FAVOURITE DEBUT BOOK FROM AN AUTHOR

000bearotter

I did some research and found out that this book is (or at least appears to be, based on the dates I found on Goodreads) T. J. Klune’s debut book. Although you may be tired of this recommendation, I do LOVE the series. The first of his books I actually read is How to be a Normal Person, which is also amazing, but this series is a balance of so many things that I love. Romance, scorching hot sex, amazing friends, strong family, figuring out human relationships, drama, comedy, crack, tangents! This series is just everything! ❤

CINDERELLA – A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH

JUST LIKE CINDERELLA, YOU EITHER DIDN’T EXPECT MUCH OUT OF THIS CHARACTER IN THE BEGINNING BUT THEY TURNED OUT TO BE A TOTAL GEM

Zuko from Avatar the Last Airbender is probably the character that has had some of the most development out of any character in anything ever.  He changes so much from season 1 into 2 and three, and becomes such an amazing member of the Avatar gang!

AURORA – SLEEPING BEAUTY

A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU SLEEPY OR JUST COULD NOT HOLD YOUR ATTENTION

000pride.jpg

Honestly, I just thought it was boring. Trust me I “got it”, but lots of fans in this book just can’t seem to stand when someone doesn’t love this beloved classic. All I can say is – Deal with it! Different strokes for different folks!

ARIEL – UNDER THE SEA

A BOOK WITH A WATER/OCEAN SETTING

000theseafarers.jpg

Although I haven’t read this yet, this is a queer retelling of The Little Mermaid with fat mermaids (or at least the main character is fat and/or chubby). Clearly I am quite obviously all for it!

BELLE – BEAUTY AND THE BOOKS

NAME A BOOK WITH THE BEST BOOKWORM/BOOK LOVER

While I still haven’t read Inkheart beyond a few chapters, without a doubt Mo and his daughter Meggie are the number one characters I think of when I think of a love of books and being a bookworm. I am currently reading The Neverending Story and both Bastian the bookshop owner.

JASMINE – THE THIEF AND THE PRINCESS

NAME BOOK WITH AN UNLIKELY LOVE STORY (EITHER IN TERMS OF ROMANCE OR A BOOK YOU DIDN’T EXPECT TO LOVE SO MUCH)

000slamdunk.jpg

This was my first sports anime or manga series and I just devoured. It’s so fun and action filled and I couldn’t help but love it.

POCAHONTAS – THE REAL LIFE PRINCESS

NAME A BOOK THAT IS BASED ON A REAL LIFE PERSON YOU WANT TO READ/HAVE READ

00abraham

I have read this one. It’s pretty good. Much better than Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and almost much better than the regretful movie that was made out of it. Overall it’s just a fun read. Not my favourite ever, but with a title like this I had to check it out! Also I guess the above description of Pocahontas now makes Abraham Lincoln a princess?

000mulan

MULAN – THE PRINCESS THAT SAVED HER COUNTRY

NAME THE FIERCEST HEROINE YOU KNOW
00thehate

Starr Carter is a bawse. She’s so intelligent, level headed, courageous and fierce. She isn’t this way from the beginning and grows into herself, and all that she is capable of over the course of the story. It’s unfortunate that she is thrust into the role that she is at such a young age, but after some initial struggle, she takes up the mantle so well and wears it with such determination!

TIANA – THE PRINCESS WITH THE COOLEST AND MOST DIVERSE CREW

NAME A DIVERSE BOOK WHETHER IT IS A DIVERSE SET OF CHARACTERS (LIKE TIANA’S GROUP OF NAVEEN, LOUIS, RAY, AND MORE) OR JUST DIVERSE IN GENERAL

Even though this is a copy of Birdie Blog’s answer, I could not come up with anything better. I mean you have a bisexual black character, a gay character with dyslexia, a king criminal character who uses a cane and a (fierce) woman with brown skin. One of them is also a prisoner and two of them basically have magical powers. Also there are two women on the main cast of six and they are awesome and extremely involved. Plus I absolutely love the SoC duology!

RAPUNZEL – LET YOUR LONGGGGGG HAIR DOWN

NAME THE LONGEST BOOK YOU’VE EVER READ

lesmis01

Holla for Les Miserables (and yes I did read or listen to all 1463 pages of this monster!) The core story is so good but dear Mr. Hugo, you really need to stop info dumping tons of historical information that, in the grand scheme of things, really doesn’t add anything to the story.

000merida

MERIDA – I DETERMINE MY OWN FATE

A BOOK WHERE THERE IS NO LOVE STORY/INTEREST OR ISN’T NEEDED

00thissavagesong

FINALLY a good YA book where a male and female protagonist spend lots of time together and they don’t get together and nor do they get together with anyone else. The story is great without them canoodling and with them just developing their relationship as friends. Honestly this book works so well as is!

ANNA/ELSA – FROZEN HEARTS

A BOOK IN A WINTER/COLD SETTING

algoma

Algoma is tragic, it’s different, it’s weird and I still very clearly remember the opening scenes. It occurs in a mining community in northern Quebec in Canada. While I don’t think it’s confined to a particular season, the tragic event that spurs on the events of the rest of the story occurs in the winter time, and this is Canada where weather tends to be cold much of the time. It’s been so long since I read this book, I’m going to blurb it:

A year after watching Leo go through thin ice, twelve-year-old Ferd is obsessed with the idea that he can persuade his dead brother to come home through a campaign of letters. Plaintive notes appear around the house–folded squares of paper in the rain reservoir, kitchen sink, and washing machine. Ferd’s mother, Algoma, is also unravelling; attempting to hide her son’s letters, reconnect with her increasingly distant husband, and rebuild her life.

I feel like this is a book I wouldn’t always like and appreciate, but I read it at the right time and when I think of winter atmosphere / nature in Canada, given some of the scenes in this book, this is what immediately springs to mind.

000moana

MOANA – HOW FAR I’LL GO

A CHARACTER THAT GOES ON A JOURNEY

It has to be Lila from the Shades of Magic trilogy. She is itching for an adventure and would “rather die on an adventure than standing still.” She’s very headstrong and she travels between Londons and to different places within Red London on her adventure. Then there’s obviously her other journeys in the book that don’t involve physically moving from place to place. Not to mention she will be up to more adventuring in the future I’m sure. ; )

    • Your welcome, it was a joy to do! Also yay for more people not liking P&P (it’s just when people uphold it as this amazing thing that one should only ever always like as fans of that book often are, it makes me want to find fellow haters or at least not likers all the more!)

  1. Ooh, that cover of Bear, Otter and the Kid is pretty! I wonder how I can buy that copy. 🙂
I also agree with it being a great launching book. It’s amazing.

Also, obviously I agree with your assessment of Six of Crows, but you definitely worded it much better than I did.

    • Yeah I love that cover _< but eventually I want to own all the ones I love in physical form (especially Bear, Otter and the Kid and How to be a Normal Person as I want them to freely be able to flip through whenever in order to laugh and laugh and remember with fondness).

Six of Crows was such an obvious pick and it's such a fantastic duology to boot!
